Gold Extends Record Rally Atop $1,800, Silver Advances 0.8%
U.S. gold futures prices surged above $1,800 an ounce and to a third straight record close as jittery investors fled stocks and sought safety against renewed concerns about the U.S. and global economies.
On the day, December gold prices rallied $28.20, or 1.6 percent, to $1,822.00 an ounce on the Comex in New York. Gold traded from an intraday low of $1,786.80 to a high of $1,829.70. The yellow metal has closed higher for four straight days, lifting its 2011 gain to $400.60, or 28.2 percent [...]

US Mint Sales: Grand Canyon 5 Oz Silver, Commemorative Gold Coins...
Collectors sought coins composed of silver more than gold, according to the latest United States Mint sales figures.
In terms of numismatic weekly improvements, 48 U.S. Mint products outperformed their previous increases. Gold coins were just as hot as silver ones in that regard. A string of record high gold prices boosted the sales pace of several gold and commemorative coins despite a series of suspensions.
As precious metals soared last week, the United States Mint first suspended sales of numismatic gold coins and then stopped selling commemorative gold coins [...]
In The Lead – Everything Has a Price
Gold prices opened with double-digit gains on Thursday and touched $1,817.90 per ounce ahead of the New York session's start even as the US dollar reclaimed the 74.00 level on the trade-weighted index. For a change (but not much of one) silver tried to keep in lockstep with gold but managed only a 20 cent rise out of the market's starting gate (to $40.44).
In day-to-day reversal of fortunes, platinum and palladium declined as some profit-taking emerged in the wake of yesterday's rallies and as the impact of demand-based apprehension made itself felt in the trading pits. The former lost $1 (quoted at $1,836) and the latter fell $5 (to $767) as the action got underway in New York. [...]
ANA, PNG Announce Improvements for 2012 Official Pre-Show in Philadelphia
Promptly responding to dealers' comments about the first Official ANA-PNG Pre-Show in Chicago, leaders of the American Numismatic Association and the Professional Numismatists Guild have announced significant changes for next year's event in Philadelphia.

Gold Extends Record, Silver Prices Settle Atop $40
Gold futures prices Wednesday settled to a new record high for a second straight day. A weaker greenback was supportive, as was news of rising inflation and continued worries over euro zone debt.

In The Lead – The “Passion” of the Perry: J’Accuse!
Precious metals markets opened steady-to-higher for the midweek session in New York this morning.
While gold and silver made only very modest advances that threatened to turn into potential losses, platinum and palladium staged fairly hefty rallies at the start of the trading day.
Spot gold opened flat at $1,787.00 the ounce on the bid-side while silver gained a quarter to open at $40.16 the ounce. Overcoming the $40.50 area is still the white metal's "task" in order to try to draw near an ultimate short-terms potential target around $42.30 per ounce [...]
