Bullion BarsSilver continued to lead the metals’ complex to lower ground, losing about 2.2% or nearly $0.90 and trading at $34.49 at opening time after having touched $33.85 in overnight trading overseas.

The white metal is now beneath its 100-day moving average at $34.85 and might be slowly (or not so slowly, on certain days) aiming for the 200-day one at the $29.32 level, a number at or near which analysts expect support to hopefully emerge. That level would be 58% off the pinnacle recorded at $50.35 not too long ago [...]

Fine Gold BarsU.S gold futures finished lower Friday as the dollar rose against the euro after renewed concerns over Greece’s debt crisis surfaced. The loss pushed gold below $1,500 an ounce, cutting its weekly gain to a whispering 0.1 percent.

Silver prices advanced to just above $35 an ounce. Its daily 0.6 percent pick-up was too modest however, as the white metal extended its weekly losing streak to two. But the resulting 0.8 percent loss was like a sigh of relief when compared against its 27.4 percent thrashing last week. [...]

It has been two weeks now since the sector has recorded certain epic valuations that were followed by a pattern of price action that best resembles the happenings at a bungee-jumping festival. And thus, we come to Friday the 13th, hoping we do not get the next installment of the movie playing out on the world’s financial screens [...]

Bullion BarsAmid further signs that not all is well in the world of commodities, values of various components that make up the complex continued to slide after having attempted a half-hearted recovery over the early part of the week. Yesterday’s fresh wash-out in silver (nearly 9%) was followed this morning by a second wave of aggressive selling that shaved yet another 7% off of the white metals previously lofty valuations.

Last week’s largest decline in commodities in two years and the loss of some $100 billion in [...]
