The latest round of United States Mint sales figures show several interesting product developments, including the near sell out of the three recently issued America the Beautiful 5 ounce Silver Coins.
The US Mint placed the collector Hot Springs National Park 5 Ounce Silver Uncirculated Coin on sale Thursday. 19,000 of the 27,000 sold by the evening. Around 2,000 remained as of late Monday afternoon. It would appear the Hot Springs issue is destined to sell out before the Mint is scheduled to lift its one per coin household limit on Thursday.
For the companion bullion silver coins, the investment-grade Gettysburg and Glacier America the Beautiful 5 ounce Silver Bullion Coins went on sale Monday, April 25. The Mint’s Authorized Purchasers (AP’s) ordered 237,800 of the available 256,000 as of Monday, leaving expectations for a sell out with just 15,200 left.
2011 American Gold Eagle Proof Coins enjoyed solid gains during their first full week of availability following their release on Thursday, April 21 and despite price increases on Wednesday. A quick sell out for any of the 22-karat gold coins appears to be well into a distant future, however.

On the debuting front, sales figures for the 2011 Presidential $1 Coin Uncirculated Set™ are not yet available. They were released Wednesday. As of late, the US Mint seems to be taking longer to report opening numbers for sets. The Mint did report the first round of sales for the 2011 America the Beautiful Quarters Uncirculated Coin Set which was released back on Tuesday, April 19. Collectors have ordered 14,622 as of Sunday.
Last week’s US Mint sales report showed that demand had risen sharply for the 2011 commemorative coins with many of them doubling their previous weekly gains. Their latest weekly sales did not show doublings, but week-over-week sales picked up for each of the six 2011 US Army Commemorative Coins and for all four of the 2011 Medal of Honor Commemorative Coins.
