The Perth Mint has pulled away the curtains to unveil the new and unique 2009 Australian Kangaroo gold coin design. The Australian Government official, legal tender bullion coins are struck in 99.99% pure gold, carry a guarantee in weight and purity, and include eight fractional sizes with two different reverse designs.

The series of 8 coins are minted for both investors and collectors and will be released October 1, 2008 for worldwide distribution.

The obverse or heads side of the gold coins depict Ian Rank-Broadley’s effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

The 1oz, 1/2oz, 1/4oz, 1/10oz and 1/20oz reverse design portrays a kangaroo with a ‘joey’ in its pouch with a representation of the Southern Cross constellation and the seven-pointed Commonwealth Star in the background.

Overwhelming demand forced the United States Mint to suspend one-ounce American Eagle gold coin sales to their network of Authorized Purchasers on August 17.

The suspension of the investment gold coins has been lifted — at least on a limited basis, according to a U.S. Mint memo to its authorized dealers on August 22.

“The unprecedented demand for American Eagle gold one-ounce bullion coins necessitates our allocating these coins among the authorized purchasers on a weekly basis until we are able to meet demand."

The newest state quarters honor Alaska with bags and rolls of the coins available Monday from the United States Mint.

Collectors can order 100- and 1,000-coin quarter bags or two-roll sets with 40 coins each from the U.S. Mint facility at Denver and Philadelphia.

The Alaska state quarter is the 49th, and second to last coin released in the United States Mint 50 State Quarters® Program. The popular program began in 1999 and ends with the Hawaii commemorative quarter set for release in November. To date, over 33.7 billion state quarters have been struck.

The Bureau of Engraving and Printing (BEP) is responsible for printing U.S. currency, and their reported July banknotes totals have been released. Note production was substantially lower for the month.

576,000,000 U.S. banknotes were manufactured in July worth $9,766,000,000. That compares to 649.6 million notes worth $15.5 billion in June.

More than $5 billion of the difference came from a reduction of $100s in July. Fewer $5s were also produced while the quantity of $1s, $10s and $20s slightly increased.

Spread across the 31 days in July and counting weekends and holidays, the BEP averaged nearly 18.6 million notes per day with a total daily face value worth $315 million, which would be enough for every man, woman and child in the U.S. to have slighter over $1.
