I use the $1 coins often and I like them. I enjoy using them because I think cashier’s enjoy getting something different every once in awhile.

Cost already exceeds face value for pennies and nickels. It costs about 2.5 cents to make a penny, and about 7 cents to make a nickel.

Many other Nations, such as Australia, Denmark, and New Zealand no longer use penny or have one dollar notes(Bills). Wait and see if inflation will force Mint to stop making pennies or Printing Office stop printing one dollar bills. Since inflation rate is speeding up so it will cost more mint pennies or one dollar bills. Soon cost might exceed the face value!

I prefer the dollar coins to the bills, FWIW. I make a habit of picking up a couple rolls from the bank every month. Some people are surprised and act like they don’t know what they are, but for the most part people seem to be familiar with them.

To me they’re just more durable, and less “gross” than bills.
