U.S. Mint Increases Price for American Buffalo Coin
The United States Mint has increased the price of the 2008 American Buffalo Celebration Coin.
The 24-karat buffalo coin first went on sale February 5 for the price of $1,018.88. The new price has been adjusted upward by $100 to $1,118.88.
The gold coin was launched to celebrate the 2008 Lunar New Year and is the first coin from a new Mint program titled, the United States Mint Celebration Series. It contains one ounce of .9999 fine gold.
The London Fix close for an ounce of gold on the day of the coin’s release was $887.50. Yesterday’s close was $970 per ounce. Given the difference between the two, the Mint would seem to have added a bit of an upper buffer price for the buffalo coin.
