James Monroe Individual Proof Coins The James Monroe Individual Proof $1 Coin is now available through the United States Mint. James Monroe was the fifth President of the United States and the special individual proof coins honoring him are priced at $5.95 each.

Unfortunately, the $4.95 standard shipping and handling charge makes the purchase harder to consider unless ordering them in quantity or with additional Mint products. There is a 5 order limit for the individual proof coin.

Monroe Presidential $1 Coins first entered circulation on February 14, 2008. It was the first Presidential Dollar for 2008 and the fifth since the series began in 2007.

The Proof set with all 2008 Presidential Dollars are available now. Later this year, circulating $1 Coins will be released honoring

  • John Quincy Adams on May 15
  • Andrew Jackson on Aug. 14
  • and Martin Van Buren on Nov. 13

The U.S. Mint released the 2008 Presidential Dollar Proof Set on January 31, 2008. This set contains all four proof presidential dollars for the year, including the Monroe $1 coin.

Given the set is on sale for $14.95, plus $4.95 for shipping and handling, it’s less expensive to purchase it versus individual proof coins. That it, unless the packaging and the single proof coin is an attractive offering to consider for a particular situation.

The 2008 Proof Set can be purchased online through the Mint page:
